Nolwandle Mantashe, the wife of ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe, recently vis¬ited Sebokeng to make a special donation.

Accompanied by a team of officials from the Gwede Mantashe Foundation, Nolwandle donated her hus¬band’s 60th birthday cake to the kids of the Lebohang Center for Disabled Children.

The Zone 10-based home has 26 staff mem¬bers who help look after 37 children who suffer from different physical and mental disabilities.

Sedibeng District Mu¬nicipality Mayor Ma¬hole Mofokeng and of¬ficials from his office including the munici¬pality’s spokesperson Lebo Mofokeng wel¬comed Nolwandle and her team to the Vaal.

The home’s founding director James Makhu- bo told guests how the center was established in 1990s with the help of Mofokeng, who was still a wardcoun¬cillor at the time.

Makhubo, who is a former school prin¬cipal, said Mofokeng helped the organiza¬tion open its first bank account and even pushed for vacant land in the area to be donat¬ed to the center.

“We’re happy to host the mayor today, who has been like a father to us over the years and we’re delighted to welcome guests of the Gwede Mantashe Foundation who have come to give us a spe¬cial gift,” he said.

Mofokeng, a former engineer at Sasol firm said he was humbled to host the foundation.

A week earlier, scores of guests gathered at the Emerald Casino and Resort to cel¬ebrate Gwede Man¬tashe’s birthday.

“We’re happy to have hosted a big gathering to celebrate the SG’s birthday which at¬tracted many leaders around the country to our shores,” he said.

Nolwandle said she realized Mantashe’s cake was too big and would have been wasted at the party so she decided parts of the cake should be donated to needy kids.

After the handover of the cake, all guests were given a tour of the premises and were greeted with smiles.
