Tourism sector lifts Sedibeng region to a greater height

Sedibeng region continued to excel by celebrating its milestone inrecognising the Tourism sector through the 2ndAnnual Sedibeng Tourism Awards and proved beyond reasonable doubt that the region is by far trendsetters.

The awards which were held at the Lord’s Signature Hotel in Risiville, Vereeniging on Thursday night was in partnership with Emfuleni, Midvaal & Lesedi Local Municipalities and Sedibeng Regional Tourism Organization, with the support of Gauteng Tourism Authority and Tourism Enterprise Programme.

Giving his keynote address Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Nkosiphendule Kolisile said:“Vaal River and the birding route have attracted millions of people to Sedibeng and that is a shining jewel in tourism. Tourism is a critical industry in the Gauteng economy. It has a potential to bring economy in our area.”

“Word of mouth plays a significant role, and the negative mouth is the destroyer of this industry. We are gathered here during the month of freedom and we recognize individuals and business,” he concluded.

This year’s event was held under the theme “Vaal, the place to be” strive to improve the quality of service and products through the Sedibeng Tourism Awards Programme. The Awards ceremony comes at the time when the Municipality is preparing itself for a move towards a metropolitan municipality.

Dawn Robertson, CEO of Gauteng Tourism Authority, congratulated the participant by saying “Whether you won or not, my challenge to you is not only to celebrate but to make sure tourism is running.”

Stonehaven on Vaal, which boast the longest garden restaurant emerged the biggest victors as they scooped 3 awards, while the likes of Clive Mpembe from Kasi Studios in Sharpeville, Boiketlo Baka Art Gallery, Nnini Khambule Tours and Emerald Casino Resortto name a few shared accolades.

Acting mayor of Sedibeng district,Maipato Tsokolibane said the tourism awards ceremony is to acknowledge, reward and promote service excellent in the tourism industry within the region.

“Recipients of these awards can use the accolades as important tools which inform and draw customers, to position their products and services. They will also be marketed in all marketing material and can display an award plaque indicating that they meet or exceed the requirements of service excellence,”said Tsokolibane.
